Coast Guard Drops in on Ridgefield

dsc_0016.jpg Six hundred spectators from Ridgefield Recreation Summer Camp, as well as the School's Summer Program, got the thrill of watching a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter land on Veteran's Field the morning of July 11. Children cheered as the helicopter approached and got a chance to get a closer look after the landing. Special thanks to Officer Bobby Meuer, who set up the demonstration in co-ordination with the Recreation Department and Debbie Fugnitti, Camp Director. Councilman Nicholas Lonzisero and Warren Vincentz, the Police Department, Office of Emergency Management and the Ridgefield Fire Department were also on site.

  • Police/Summer Camp Continue to Coordinate Special Events

On Friday July 25th the special events set up by the Ridgefield Police and Ridgefield Recreation Summer Camp continued with the New Jersey State Police Helicopter landing on Veterans' Field. They displayed where a helicopter would land in Ridgefield during an emergency. Kids from camp and the school's summer program go to see the State Police in action.
The fun did not stop there... Monday July 28th the children were treated to a display by the Bergen County Bomb Squad. The County's Special Police Division showed off their protective gear and a robot that retrieves bombs. They also explained to the children what to do in such emergencies, which was very helpful. The afternoon ended with a big bang as the County set off a bomb under extreme supervision. Thank you to the Ridgefield Police, Bergen County Bomb Squad, as well as Ridgefield's Recreation Summer Camp staff.
